Let us face it, we are in the rebooting age, and so many amazing series should get the chance to come back. Let us explore 10 series that we want to bring back.
The series ran on the TNT network between July 2010 and September 2016, running for seven seasons and 105 episodes. The series stars Angie Harmon as police detective Jane, and Sasha Alexander as medical examiner Maura. The series had glorious ratings for the first four seasons. The series was also a family series with Jane’s mother and brother’s, and Maura’s biological and adoptive parents. The series also lost one of its stars, Lee Thompson Young that portrayed the role of Frost. The series got a sweet series finale that left the door open for more. Jane left the Boston Police to become a trainer at the FBI. Lieutenant Korsak retired, and Maura took time off to write a novel. The new series can center on one of the two leads in their new life, or reunite both on a case that relaunches the series.
Although The CW did create a new version of the show, they opted to not continue the series. However, they found a clever way to resurrect a dead character from the original series, they kind of dropped the ball by killing her again in the premiere. The cast was well liked, except for Ashley Simpson that was the weakest link in the series. The first season brought back almost the entire original cast. Daphne Zuniga (Jo), Heather Locklear (Amanda), Josie Bissett (Jane) and Thomas Calabro (Michael). A possible sub plot that could have been explored is the possibility that Courntey Thorne-Smith’s character Alison be the daughter of Ella, a new character that was introduced in the reboot. The reboot faired better than the other reboot, 90210, but the decision was made to end Melrose Place. Several plots were left unresolved in the series finale.
The premise of the show was bold, for something in 2002. Years before the famous DC comics shows like Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. The show starred three strong women (Dina Meyer, Rachel Skarsten and Ashley Scott). The story was about the daughter of Batman and Catwoman fighting crime. With the help The Oracle (Dina Meyers) who was shot by The Joker and ended up paralysed from the waste down. The dark tone turned off viewers and the show was cancelled after 13 episodes.
The show changed the face of television when it launched in March 1997. It is also the only show that aired on two networks, the now defunct The WB and for the last two seasons, on the equally defunct UPN. The series lasted seven seasons and ran for 144 episodes. It created its own spin-off, Angel. The series stared Sarah Michelle Gellar, in the title role of Buffy Summers. When the show ended, in 2003, several sources revealed that a spin off starring Alyson Hannigan’s character of Willow. However, 17 years later, no spin offs were ever created. The story created an entire world, and it is a shame that nothing has been done with it for all this time. They are so many possibilities that it is still a mystery why nothing has been created yet.
The show has already had the reboot treatment on The CW. Premiering in 2008, the show showed great promise when it hosted the first ever return of the character Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) that left the original series. It was also the first time Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty shared a scene. With Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty and Tori Spelling all guest staring on the show, giving it a nod from the original series. However, as season two debuted, Jennie Garth left the series and no other cast members from the original show has ever showed. The series was so bad, that the series finale barely had 500 000 viewers. The stars of the original created a limited series for FOX, reuniting the original cast members playing an exaggerated version of themselves. The series aired all six episodes and FOX cancelled the series. One of the subplots suggested the series would chronical a real reboot of the series. However, they never had a chance to explore this. Stars of the original show has mentioned that they feel The CW reboot was never really part of the franchise. A proper spin-off would be appreciated.
The series starring Matt Bomer, followed the adventures of an ex-con being recruited by an FBI agent, played by Tim DeKay. The series also stars Tiffani Thiessen (ex-Valerie, Beverly Hills 90210). The show ran for 6 seasons and 81 episodes on the USA Network. The series has a huge fan following, and Matt even said that they were looking to create revival.
The series debuted in September 2011, and last one season. The show had potential and left us with one hell of a cliff-hanger. Running 13 episodes. The series follows the lives of the Shannon family, that decide to go live 85 million years in the past. Steven Spielberg was an executive producer of the show. The show stared Jason O’Mara, at the father.
In 2006, CBS released a show called Jericho. The ground-breaking series followed the lives in a small town called Jericho after a nuclear attack. Leaving the town with no electricity. The show was cancelled first after 22 episodes aired. However major fan reaction to the cancellation, by sending CBS peanuts, had them reverse course and order a shorten final season of seven episodes. The series performed so well online, but CBS opted not to continue the series. The show stared Skeet Ulrich, Ashley Scott and many other popular actors.
The CW hyped the return to a tv series of Sarah Michelle Gellar. Fans were in for a treat, she played two characters on the show, twin sisters, Bridget and Siobhan. The series follows the life of Bridget, who is running away from a mafia boss because she is a witness of a murder and reunites with estranged sister. The latter fakes a suicide and Bridget inserts herself in her sister’s life and discovers her sister was also the target of a killer. The twist and turns were complicated, and the show was cancelled after 22 episodes.
The CW launched a spin off, or a re-imagining of the original series, La Femme Nikita. The updated series stared Maggie Q as Nikita, Shane West as Michael. The show follows Nikita trying to expose the Division, by having one of her protégé’s working for them. The show ran for four seasons and 73 episodes. The final season consisted of six episodes that was believed to be the best episodes of the series. Although none of the original stars came back, one exception was Alberta Watson, with what appeared to be the final TV appearance before her death on March 25th 2015. She played the role of Senator Madeline Pierce (a wink to the characters name she played on La Femme Nikta) for nine episodes. The series gave a happy ending to Nikita and most of her friends and could easily pick to new adventures.
