Star Trek: Prodigy | Season 2 | Episode 15 “Ascension, Part 1” Recap

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2

In this thrilling and action-packed episode, the crew of USS Voyager, led by Captain Janeway (played by Kate Mulgrew), receive urgent orders from Admiral Jellico (played by Ronny Cox). They are to return to Earth immediately and take command of the Protostar project, with the responsibility of sending it back to its correct time. The orders come as a surprise, but both her steadfast first officer, Commander Chakotay (played by Robert Beltran), and Captain Janeway agree to comply. The Protostar crew, consisting of young cadets and their various alien allies, feel a sense of disappointment at not being able to see their mission through to completion. Dal R’El (voiced by Brett Gray), a young and resourceful leader among them, reminds his team that Gwyn (voiced by Ella Purnell) would ultimately be in better hands under Starfleet’s care.

Meanwhile, the holographic Doctor (voiced by Robert Picardo) breaks the unfortunate news to Zero (voiced by Angus Imrie) that the mechanical body Zero inhabits is deteriorating beyond repair. However, with Starfleet’s recent acquisition of groundbreaking new technology, they are able to construct a new body. Zero, filled with hope and determination, enlists the help of the ingenious Jankom Pog (voiced by Jason Mantzoukas) to assist in the complex process of rebuilding.

Amidst these developments, Gwyn receives an urgent summons to the bridge. There, her younger father, the Diviner (played by John Noble), appears on the viewscreen with a dire message. He reveals that Ascencia (played by Jameela Jamil) has seized control of Solum and, using an unprecedented and mysterious technology, is assembling a formidable army at an alarming pace. The implications of this rapid technological advancement concern Janeway, who ponders the origins of such powerful technology. Ascencia, in her quest for dominance, dispatches a colossal ship to launch an assault on both Voyager and the Protostar.

Faced with this imminent threat, Chakotay takes command, determined to protect the Protostar at all costs. He is joined by Gwyn, Rok-Tahk (voiced by Rylee Alazraqui), Jankom, and the enigmatic Murf, all ready to face the challenge. Dal steps up to replace a fallen pilot and man the shuttle defenses, while Zero remains behind to assist the Doctor in sickbay, tending to the wounded and ensuring the crew’s survival.

As the intense battle unfolds, Janeway becomes acutely aware of the enemy’s overwhelming strength. With their shields depleted to zero, the crew braces themselves for the worst. Just when it seems that all hope might be lost, a revelation emerges that changes everything. The technology fueling Ascencia’s unstoppable force is none other than Traveller tech, a mysterious and advanced form of technology known for its power to transcend space and time.

Unknown to the crew, Wesley Crusher (played by Wil Wheaton), once a promising Starfleet officer and now a Traveller himself, is being held captive on Ascencia’s ship. His knowledge and abilities have been exploited to further her nefarious plans. The revelation of Traveller tech’s involvement suggests that Wesley may be the key to understanding and ultimately defeating Ascencia’s technological advantage. However, his presence remains hidden from the crew, adding an ominous undercurrent to their mission.

In this gripping episode, the stakes are higher than ever as the crew of Voyager and the Protostar must work together, using their ingenuity, courage, and the bonds of friendship to face an adversary unlike any they’ve encountered before. The future of the galaxy hangs in the balance as they race against time to unravel the mystery of the Traveller tech and find a way to counter Ascencia’s plans before her technological advantage spells doom for the Federation.
