Star Trek: Prodigy | Season 2 | Episode 14 “Cracked Mirror” Recap

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2

In this thrilling episode of Star Trek: Prodigy, the crew of the Protostar embarks on an adventure that promises to test their courage and ingenuity. The episode opens with the crew setting a course for the legendary USS Voyager, an iconic starship known for its historic journey across the Delta Quadrant. The Protostar, helmed by Dal (Brett Gray) and his diverse crew, is eager to make contact and learn from the storied ship and its crew.

Upon their arrival, the crew is authorized to beam aboard Voyager. As they materialize on the transporter pad, they are greeted by The Doctor (Robert Picardo), the ship’s enigmatic and versatile Emergency Medical Hologram. The Doctor expresses surprise at their visit and is especially taken aback by the presence of Chakotay (Robert Beltran), a figure of great importance to Voyager’s history. The mood shifts dramatically when Chakotay inquires about Admiral Janeway (Kate Mulgrew). A palpable shock ripples through the Protostar crew when The Doctor reveals that Admiral Janeway perished heroically, taking the starship Infinity into a dangerous rift to save countless lives.

Dal quickly counters, reminding everyone that this is not how events unfolded in their reality. Confusion reigns as the crew grapples with this unsettling information. Maj’el, a perceptive member of the crew, hypothesizes that they might have inadvertently slipped into an alternate reality. To get to the bottom of this mystery, the crew splits into two groups, one accompanying The Doctor to sickbay to gather more information and the other to explore the ship.

As they traverse the corridors of Voyager, Gwyn (Ella Purnell) suddenly feels faint, a sensation that puzzles and concerns her fellow crew members. Meanwhile, Zero (Angus Imrie) and Maj’el find themselves inexplicably transported to a new reality, one that feels strangely familiar yet unsettlingly different. They quickly deduce that they are caught in a phenomenon causing them to shift between parallel realities.

The other group, meanwhile, discovers themselves on a battered, seemingly abandoned version of Voyager. The atmosphere is tense and foreboding as they encounter an old adversary, a cunning thief known for his treacherous antics. He is scavenging through the remnants of the ship, seeking valuable technology or artifacts to exploit. Recognizing the opportunity and danger, the crew devises a bold plan to use Voyager’s deflector dish to stabilize the chaotic timelines and restore order.

As they work on their plan, Maj’el observes with growing concern that each reality jump weakens Gwyn further, her connection to this reality becoming increasingly tenuous. The crew decides to take decisive action and beam directly to the bridge, hoping to seize control and implement their plan.

Once on the bridge, they are confronted by a chilling sight: the Mirror Universe counterparts of Admiral Janeway and Chakotay, known for their ruthless and authoritarian demeanor. These alternate versions of their allies are formidable opponents, and the crew finds themselves quickly imprisoned in the brig. However, their resilience and resourcefulness shine as they engineer a daring escape and make their way back to the bridge.

There, they face the looming threat of The Loom, a species capable of catastrophic destruction. Chakotay and Dal engage in tense negotiations with Evil Janeway, persuading her that restoring the timeline to its original state will send them back to their own universe and prevent The Loom from annihilating everyone aboard. The stakes are high, and time is of the essence. With grudging agreement from Evil Janeway, the crew executes their plan.

In a breathtaking sequence of events, the crew is suddenly transported back to their own reality, materializing aboard the real Voyager. Relief washes over them as they are once again greeted by The Doctor. The emotional climax of the episode arrives with the appearance of Admiral Janeway, whose presence is met with a wave of joy and tears. This heartwarming reunion underscores the profound bonds formed between the crews of Voyager and the Protostar, highlighting the enduring spirit of exploration and friendship that defines the Star Trek universe.

With the timeline restored and their mission complete, the crew reflects on their adventure, each member profoundly impacted by the experience. They have not only navigated the complexities of parallel realities but also strengthened their resolve and camaraderie, proving once again that together, they can overcome any challenge the universe throws their way.
