Pretty Little Liars: Summer School | Season 2 | Episode 6 “Chapter Sixfteen: “Hell House”

About the author

This episode answers some of the questions viewers have about Bloody Rose. By the end of this episode, her identity is revealed. But before we get to that showdown of a showdown, let’s recap the rest of the episode.

Faren breaks up with Henry after seeing what she saw at the church. She couldn’t believe her eyes when she witnessed the pastor involved in some clandestine and deeply troubling activities. This revelation shakes her to the core, and the trust she once had in Henry is irreparably damaged. Meanwhile, Tabby’s boss is still MIA. She tells Christian he usually cools off after a few days, but he is not returning any calls or texts. This prolonged absence leaves Tabby anxious and concerned, fearing the worst.

Noa tells Jen she needs to hit pause on their possible relationship. She loves her boyfriend and with Bloody Rose out there, things are just too complicated. Noa’s feelings are a whirlwind; she’s caught between her affection for Jen and her commitment to her boyfriend, all while the looming threat of Bloody Rose casts a dark shadow over her life.

During summer class, Kelly comes for a visit and invites everyone to Redemption House. To Imogen’s shock and horror, it takes place at her old house, where her mother killed herself. Mouse tells Ash about it, and he breaks down, saying how evil and twisted these houses are and that they are really hell houses meant to scare minorities, like gays and trans people. Ash’s emotional breakdown is a poignant moment, shedding light on the deep-seated fears and traumas that these so-called “redemption houses” inflict on vulnerable communities. Horrified, Mouse tells the girls. Determined to not go, they get to the house and confront Kelly, who swears nothing that nefarious is in play and they should come and see it.

The next day, they decide to go but are greeted by Chip’s mother. She berates the girls for being liars and killers, but the girls are quick to remind her that Chip did rape both Tabby and Imogen and none of them murdered her son. The tension in the air is palpable as the girls stand their ground, refusing to be blamed for the horrors Chip inflicted upon them. They enter the house, and it was as if it was personally tailored for each girl’s trauma. Drug abuse for Noa, raving teenage parties with rapists for Tabby, etc. The scenes are disturbingly vivid, designed to break them down mentally and emotionally. But the cherry on top was in Imogen’s mother’s room. Kelly is there, in a bed, blood all over, faking a suicide and screaming not to go to hell. The grotesque display is too much to bear, and the girls run out of the house, disgusted by what they saw. Imogen takes an axe to the electric system, shutting the place down for now.

Later, the pastor, a shady character to begin with, is in the house’s basement and comes face to face with Bloody Rose. He seems unaware of who she is and antagonizes her. His arrogance and condescension are his downfall as she responds by stabbing him in the forehead, instantly killing him. The brutality of the act leaves no room for doubt—Bloody Rose is a force to be reckoned with.

The girls later plan a Pride party at the pool. It’s a success, and Ash is super happy. The celebration is a brief respite from their troubles, a moment of joy and unity. To Faren’s surprise, Greg shows up, apologizing for his stunt in the house and says he is done with that church and Kelly. His change of heart is a glimmer of hope amidst the chaos. He says he’s an ally and enjoys the party, blending in seamlessly with the festivities.

The girls plan to put on masks and scare the people out of Imogen’s former house. It goes as planned, except when Imogen enters the room where Kelly was the other night. She gets a note from A stating not every one of them will get a warning. The ominous message sends chills down her spine. Bloody Rose is there and attacks her, attempting to kill her. Imogen fights back with every ounce of strength she has, her survival instinct kicking in. To her horror, she manages to remove the bloody mask off her attacker and screams in horror at who she sees.

The girls hear her scream and run to her rescue. With the bloody bandages on her hands, trembling and in shock, she reveals to the girls who Bloody Rose is. The shocking revelation leaves them speechless and horrified. Her own mother. The realization that her mother is the vengeful Bloody Rose adds a new layer of complexity to their ordeal. The betrayal cuts deep, leaving them all to grapple with the unsettling truth that the person they feared most was someone they thought they knew and loved.
