In Pretty Little Liars, Season 1, Episode 6 titled “There is No Place Like Homecoming,” Aria (Lucy Hale) is struggling with her recent breakup with Ezra (Ian Harding) due to A’s interference. The girls, unaware of the situation, visit Aria to cheer her up and encourage her to attend the homecoming dance. Hanna (Ashley Benson) subtly hints at Emily’s (Shay Mitchell) feelings for Maya (Bianca Lawson), mentioning that anyone should take whoever they like to the dance, glancing at Emily knowingly, still reeling from seeing the picture of Emily and Maya kissing.
As the group enjoys takeout, they are shocked to find that each fortune cookie contains a note from A, reminding them that their tormentor is always watching. We also meet Lucas (Brendan Robinson), who encounters Hanna at a celibacy club meeting. Meanwhile, Mona (Janel Parrish) asks Spencer (Troian Bellisario) if it’s true she’s bringing “towel boy” to the dance, and Hanna quickly tells Mona to back off.
Elsewhere, Toby (Keegan Allen) nervously asks Emily to the dance, while Spencer prepares for homecoming and receives a visit from her date, Alex (Diego Boneta). Hanna checks in with Maya, asking if she’s going to the dance. Maya declines, mentioning that Emily would have liked her to be there. Jenna (Tammin Sursok) ominously warns Toby that when Emily discovers the truth about him, she will hate him.
Spencer has a tense run-in with her sister, Melissa (Torrey DeVitto), who confronts her about copying her work. Spencer admits her wrongdoing, but Melissa is skeptical, stating she doesn’t believe Spencer’s apology. During homecoming preparations, Mona is rude to Lucas, sparking a confrontation with Hanna.
Aria is assigned to work at a booth with Ezra, creating an awkward tension. Toby expresses his nervousness about the dance, and when Maya unexpectedly appears, she is devastated to see Emily with Toby, leaving the other girls shocked. Melissa continues her feud with Spencer, telling Alex he is just being used to upset their father. Meanwhile, Spencer deciphers Toby’s tattoo, realizing it marks the date Alison (Sasha Pieterse) went missing. Alex grows frustrated with Spencer’s distracted behavior.
At the dance, Aria attempts to explain the truth about A but loses her nerve. Ezra confesses that he feels awful for not being able to be the boyfriend Aria needs. Hanna, determined to uncover secrets, breaks into the office she works at to find Jenna’s file. Emily begins to question if she made the right choice attending with Toby. Hanna discovers that Alison had blackmailed Toby into taking the blame for something. The girls then send Emily a text, accusing Toby of killing Alison, causing Emily to panic and run from Toby, who is merely trying to explain his side of the story.
