In the aftermath of the ambulance crash, Gabby (Monica Raymund) is deeply worried about Shay (Lauren German). At the same time, Casey (Jesse Spencer) faces a difficult family situation as his mother asks him to speak to her sister. Unfortunately, Casey says the wrong thing, and the conversation ends abruptly. Severide (Taylor Kinney) rushes to the hospital, feeling helpless as he waits for news on Shay’s condition.
With Shay recovering, Peter Mills (Charlie Barnett) temporarily replaces her on the team. The firehouse is dispatched to a sinkhole in the city, where a woman is trapped. In another call, Gabby and Mills find themselves trapped inside a house by a territorial dog, forcing them to come up with a creative solution to reach their injured victim.
Gabby begins to suspect Severide is high, noticing changes in his behavior. Meanwhile, Severide’s girlfriend tells him she has accepted a job out of town, adding to his stress. Hermann (David Eigenberg) may have gotten in over his head with a recent business deal, which leads to him second-guessing his choices. Eventually, Severide turns to Gabby for help with his addiction and finally makes the decision to meet with a surgeon to deal with the ongoing pain in his shoulder.
As “God Has Spoken” unfolds, Shay moves back in with Severide, Hermann chooses not to go through with the deal, and Mills kisses Gabby, adding to the episode’s emotional tension.
