Pretty Little Liars: Summer School | Season 2 | Episode 3 “Chapter Thirteen: Sweet Sixteen”

About the author

In this episode, the tensions and complexities of high school life come to the forefront as Mouse grapples with feelings of insecurity and isolation. She believes that her friends don’t like her because they don’t seem to be planning anything special for her sixteenth birthday. This misconception leads to a swirl of emotions for Mouse, who is unaware that her friends are actually planning a surprise party for her at the local skating rink.

Imogen, on the other hand, finds herself entangled in her own set of challenges. She inadvertently offends Johnny (Antonio Cipriano), the new guy in town, when she expresses her disapproval of his apparent interest in dating multiple girls. Johnny, feeling unfairly judged, tells Imogen to mind her own business. However, after learning about the difficult experiences Imogen has been through, Johnny has a change of heart. He apologizes to her the next day, acknowledging the weight of her past struggles. In a gesture of goodwill, Imogen casually invites Johnny to Mouse’s birthday party, hoping to mend fences and extend an olive branch.

Meanwhile, Faran faces her own battles as she deals with harassment and teasing from the boys at the pool. Her boyfriend suggests that she should adopt a more laid-back attitude like the guys. In response, Faran decides to pull a prank on the lifeguard, hoping to fit in better. However, this plan backfires when the same lifeguard is absent during a crucial moment, leading to a crisis. Faran takes responsibility and fires the lifeguard, later confiding in her boyfriend that it was a mistake to prank him. She also reveals the truth about her ability to dance again, a revelation that her boyfriend does not take well. Feeling hurt and betrayed, he decides not to attend the birthday party, leaving Faran to navigate her emotions alone.

Noa, too, is faced with a blast from the past when her old friend from juvie, Jen (Ava Capri), re-enters her life. Their past affair and Jen’s propensity for trouble stir up complications when Jen steals from the cash register at Noa’s workplace. Noa covers for Jen, making it clear that she wants to avoid any trouble that could land her back in juvie. Despite the tension, the two reconcile, and since Noa’s boyfriend won’t be attending the party, she invites Jen to come along instead.

Tabby’s storyline takes a suspenseful turn when she is invited to watch a movie at Christian’s house (Noah Alexander Gerry). Upon arriving, she learns that Christian’s workspace is in the basement, which makes her uneasy. Her discomfort intensifies when she snoops around and discovers a mask from last season’s enemy and the red lady, triggering a panic. She flees the house, shaken by the discovery. Later, Christian explains that he made those masks before he met her and apologizes for scaring her. Tabby, wanting to move past the incident, accepts his apology and invites him to the birthday party as well.

Throughout all this, Mouse continues to feel downhearted, confiding in her boyfriend, Ash (Jordan Gonzalez), about her belief that the girls don’t like her and aren’t planning anything for her birthday. Seeing her distress, Ash decides to break the secrecy and tells her that there is a birthday party planned but doesn’t reveal any other details. Later, Mouse’s grandmother insists that she gets ready for her party, promising to take her there herself. However, unbeknownst to Mouse, this is part of a sinister plan orchestrated by the red lady. When they arrive at an unfamiliar location, Mouse realizes it’s a trap. She must use her wits to hide and survive as the red lady sets the place on fire. In a dramatic turn of events, Mouse manages to escape just as her friends and Ash arrive. She tells them with a heavy heart that the nightmare is starting all over again.

This episode weaves together the threads of friendship, trust, betrayal, and survival, showcasing how the characters navigate the complexities of their intertwined lives while facing both personal and external threats. The surprise party intended to celebrate Mouse’s birthday becomes a backdrop for revelations and confrontations, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating what comes next in this gripping saga.
